it's the season of unrest

How are you feeling today? I feel a little stuck inside at the moment. My introverted self is hiding away even more. I think it has something to do with another too fast holiday season, a simultaneously joyous and difficult time for many people.

Today I was woken up by a cute little voice asking me if he could get in bed and snuggle with me. "hi mama" he said before crawling over me and getting under the covers. I told my son I wasn't feeling very well, struck down with the typical cold achy feeling this time of year brings. "are you better?" my three year old asked sweetly, not understanding recovery for sickness is not instantaneous. I explained I just need some rest and he agreed, that rest will help me feel much better.

So, how are you feeling? Do you need some rest? Are you able to relax? Ever? It seems like things should start slowing down now but instead they are flying by so quickly as this year switches over to the next.

Try to take a moment to relax today, if you can. I decided to light some candles and drink another cup of coffee and look at the flickering lights for a bit.

If you are an eighties kid like me you might remember that famous movie quote: "Life moves pretty fast, if you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." That sentiment always feel appropriate as we close out the year. Grab a little slice of these last few days of 2016 and savor it.

Maybe savoring the end of a year full of shitty things feels laughable, but personally, I'm looking at the fact that I am still waking up each day, hoping to feel better and step more outside of my hideaway. It's not going to happen instantaneously. I have seen people in my own circle fighting illness, fighting for relationships, standing up for others rights, trying to understand each other, trying to better the world. It all matters. Just like a moment of rest matters too. Here's to another year of finding those moments. And savoring them.

If you have that moment to rest and are looking for something else to read I would love for you to check out my post at Mother Manifesto here. It's a piece about home. xoxo

christmas and stuff

well, we did a lot over Christmas but didn't take a whole lot of pictures. Luckily my mind is like a memory box that never fills up so my memories stay with me a while. I am very grateful for that (for the good ones anyway) We had some lovely times with our families and all the celebrating made me feel pretty ill the last few days. I am working on catching up on sleep and taking care of my health.

I have also been lost in thought quite a bit lately, thinking about the things I wanted to do this past year, the things I didn't do and the things I am hopefully and/or definitely going to do in 2012.

I am kinda thinking this is going to be the year.

I just have a feeling...

you might be wondering what...

I guess we all have to just wait and see.

For now enjoy the few moments we captured on film.

a few days late...but still thankful

Thanksgiving was pretty much lovely. Jeff and I hosted and though we missed Grandpa Johnston and my brother Mike we hope to have both visit Colorado sometime soon.

Thanks to everyone for the company, the wine and the conversation... My cousin Alex made a particularly tasty pecan pie that was devoured.

We were too busy eating to take pictures of the food but here are a few shots of the fall atmosphere inside our home. No matter how my tastes change these autumn hues and tones will always resonate with me...

happy...november?

This year has flown by and the years seem to be going by faster each time...I was in a sugar induced deep sleep last night so I didn't post our rushed but lovely little halloween time together. The older I get the more I wish we had a little one around to share the fun...and bring some magic back into this season.

Despite that I love halloween and had fun with Jeff hanging out at home

We carved pumpkins in record time and the seeds are still drying...

I glittered my gourd-geous gourd...

Sassy!

Made some green cupcakes...thanks Betty Crocker!

and dressed like Wayne as an excuse to wear jeans to work...and because dressing up is fun!

hoppity hop hop

happy easter! I hope you enjoy spending the day however makes you and yours happy. Jeff and I are hanging out, watching movies and eating chinese food, enjoying spending some quiet time together. I plan to publish my goals tomorrow, a slight delay but what's life without the bumps in the road?
I have a few memories of easter, my parents hiding eggs and my dad usually in uniform because he was leaving (or coming back) from work. He was in the air force at the time. My mom would make little bunny cookies with raisin eyes and she always got us a book in our easter baskets.  We had these really beautiful painted paper eggs I believe they found in Germany. They would fill them up with jelly beans and I still remember loving the black jelly beans the most (yep, I'm a black licorice lover. You either understand or you are disgusted!) I miss those pretty painted eggs. I miss a lot of things.
